A Customer Cussed Me Out at Work! You Won't BELIEVE What Happens Next...
"You Can't Force Someone To Respect You, But You Can Refuse To Be Disrespected"
You want to know what happened right?! You're assuming I fought the customer or something crazy!? My pictures and title intrigued you didn't it? Well... I didn't fight the customer at all. I grabbed my manager to handle the situation and walked away calmly. Not what you were expecting was it? That's because you were misinformed and mislead. I did get cussed out by a customer, that part was true. However, I used those pictures and the second part of my title to draw you in and make you believe I beat the customer's a**! (Trust me, I really wanted to...but your girl has to keep her job!) Misinformation and disinformation are prominent everywhere we look and many times we don't recognize it! How many times have you seen a news article on Facebook that once you clicked on it, the content had NOTHING to do with the title?! Or, you're on Youtube and come across thumbnails containing red circles and arrows with a title exclaiming "You won't BELIEVE this!"... as if something insane occurred only to discover something uneventful. Don't get misinformation and disinformation confused now. Misinformation is simply misleading information, like the examples above. Disinformation is blatantly false information spread with the intention of influencing the public and hiding the truth. This occurs quite a lot among politics in our country. For example, two governors are running for office named Josh and Steve. Steve states that Latino lives matter along with Black lives. Those working for Josh claim Steve said he doesn't care about the issues of the Black community. This isn't at all what Steve said, but Josh's campaign deliberately twisted the truth to influence the public on voting for him. It's so hard to find factual, reliable information in a world so obsessed with making a profit and being deceitful. That's why it's so important to not believe everything you hear firsthand. So, next time you want to share an article on Facebook or vote for a politician, DO YOUR RESEARCH! Otherwise, you're blindly taking part in the spread of misinformation and disinformation in our society. Remember, "Information is only as reliable as the people who are receiving it. If readers do not change or improve their ability to seek out and identify reliable information sources, the information environment will not improve" -Julia Koller.
